Designing to Fit the Vision
Our Location - A former 1930’s gas station, a small piece of California history, reimagined into Business Design Services’ home!
Participating in the realization of someone else’s vision for their environment is an honor and a trust.
In 1969, Robert Boccabella earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, and immediately plunged into a field that only gets more exciting as it grows!
Over forty years later, the Commercial and Residential Interior Design field scarcely looks the same as when he began. Form, color, technology and concepts, are free to soar and embrace anyone’s dream! Once drab and somber, medical and corporate facilities are now friendlier and reflective of the principals’ personalities.
Over his career, he inevitably developed some specialties – although he remains intrigued (and busy designing) a variety of environments.
He began working with an architectural firm in Texas, then moved on to several design development experiences – including providing interior design through furniture stores and dealers that offered business and residential Interior design services. The creative ideas were not always his, but the experience was valuable.
In 1983, Robert decided it was time to take charge and seize both his own time management and quality control! He gave up that regular paycheck (and predictable vacations!) and started Business Design Services (BDS), with his fingers crossed behind his back!
Originally based in Petaluma, California, Robert’s developing market soon extended throughout the broader Bay Area to Southern California, then to Texas, Arkansas and the East Coast. This growth brought additional benefits to BDS. His design challenges became further influenced by a widening variety of geographical cultures.
As BDS and Robert grew, he carried with him a mantra that he still practices: to be sure that every finished project is as the client envisioned it! If Robert could make that happen, he reasoned, that he could believe in a portfolio of repeat clients, and healthy referrals for new ones. Robert wanted satisfied clients and their installations to be his primary advertisements.
So ... that is what BDS strived for. Why not develop “relationships” in which a satisfied business design installation would lead to that client’s residential needs, and in the future, their business refreshment, remodel, or expansion! And it worked.
Robert is proud to say that he has some clients with whom he has been associated with for over 25 years.
In 2010, Robert’s company relocated to the scenic County of Lake, California, and is now based in Lakeport. He is pleased to retain a continuing network throughout the state of California and the greater USA.
In the following essays, he offers the readership some insights for the best ways to approach their business and personal interior environment challenges.
